What made you decide to become a Veterinarian?
I've always been fascinated by living creatures from the insects, deer, and fish near our cabin to the dogs and cats we always had at home. In college I majored in biology and worked with laboratory animals. It was a natural segue.
If you weren't a Veterinarian, what would you be doing?
Either a video game designer, a pilot, or a writer for an animated cartoon series. . . .
What was your most rewarding moment as a Veterinarian?
I can't think of one particular incident, but on numerous occasions we have treated critically ill or traumatized pets (hit by car or the like) who have defied the odds and have completely recovered. The feeling of accomplishment is greater when the owners (and/or I) were strongly considering euthanizing the patient. The holidays always remind me how rewarding it is to be a vet too clients are very generous with food gifts!
What is the most common mistake you see pet owners make, and what advice would you give them?
Easily, I would say pet obesity is one of the most preventable underlying causes for so many different ailments. I know how happy your pet appears when he?s anticipating dinner, but you're doing him no favors having him over-indulge.
What do you do in your spare time?
I used to travel all over the world. That?s not so easy anymore with a full time job and responsibilites. Now I play video games too much. I also enjoy spending time on the Lakefront and riding motorcycle in the summer.
What pets do you own?
Pit bull named Buster (6 yrs old). Black cat named Warlock (6 mos old).
What is your favorite vacation spot?
Thailand has everything; beaches, scuba diving, big cities, great terrain to hop on a scooter and lose oneself
